HIGH  JUMP

If a competitor is entered in both a Track event and a Field event, or in more than one Field Event taking place simultaneously, the judge may allow the competitor to take his trials in an order different from that decided upon prior to the start of the competition, but the competitor cannot take all his trials in succession, nor take any trials of the rounds in which he has failed to appear.

A competitor in a Field event who unreasonably delays making a trial, renders himself liable to have that trial disallowed and recorded as a fault.  The following time should not be exceeded; 12 minutes - High Jump.

The competitor must be notified by the Official responsible when the period allowed for his trial has commenced.

Records in the Field events must be measured by the referee.

COMPETITION - COMPETITORS

In High Jump and Pole Vault the Judge shall announce to the competitors the commencing height and the different height to which the bar will be raised at the end of each round. (5 centimeters each round).

A competitor may pass at any height. When a competitor passes, he passes all remaining attempts at that height and not just that one attempt at that height.  After all other competitors have failed, a competitor is entitled to continue jumping until he has forfeited his right to compete further.

The heights to which the bar is raised shall be decided after consulting the wishes of the competitor. Any measurement of a new height shall be made before competitors attempt such height. In all cases of records the Judges must check the measurements after the height has been cleared.

The competitor must take off from one foot.  Knocking the bar off the supports, or touching the ground, including the landing area beyond the plane of the uprights, with any part of the body, without clearing the bar, shall count as failure.

The uprights or posts shall not be moved during the competition unless the referee considers the take off of landing area has become unsuitable.  The change, if made, shall be done at the end of a round.

The referee shall have the power to change the place of the competition in any field event if, in his opinion, conditions justify it - only at the end of a round.

MEASURING

In jumping for height, all measurements shall be made perpendicularly from the ground to the lowest part of the upper side of the bar, with a steel or fibre-glass tape or graduated bar.

RESULTS - TIES

In jumping or vaulting for height;

(a)    the competitor with the lowest number of jumps at the height at which the tie occurs

shall be awarded the higher place;

(b)   still tied - then the competitor with the lowest total of failures throughout the

competition up to and including the height last cleared, shall be awarded the higher

place

(c)    still tied - the competitor with the lowest total number of jumps (successful or not) throughout the competition up to and including the height last cleared, shall be

Awarded the highest place.

(d)   still tied - for 1st place - the competitors shall have one more jump at the height

at which they failed and if no decision is reached then the bar shall be lowered or

raised to the heights which shall be announced.  They shall then attempt one

jump at each height until the tie is decided.

FAULTS

The competitor must take off from one foot.

A competitor fail if he knocks the bar off the supports or touches the ground including the landing area beyond the plane of the uprights either between or outside the uprights, with any part of the body, without first clearing the bar.

DISCUS

If a competitor is entered in both a Track event and a Field event, or in more than one Field Event taking place simultaneously, the judge may allow the competitor to take his trials in an order different from that decided upon prior to the start of the competition, but the competitor cannot take all his trials in succession, nor take any trials of the rounds in which he has failed to appear.

A competitor in a Field event who unreasonably delays making a trial, renders himself liable to have that trial disallowed and recorded as a fault.  The following time should not be exceeded; 12 minutes -Discus.

The competitor must be notified by the Official responsible when the period allowed for his trial has commenced.

In the Throws and Horizontal Jumps, when there are more than 6 competitors, each competitor shall be allowed 3 trials, and the 6 competitors, including any competitors tied for 6th place, shall be allowed 3 additional trials.  In those Field events where the result is determined by distance, the second best performance of the competitors tying shall decide who shall be placed higher in the finals standings.  If the tie still remains the third best performance shall be used, and so on.

Records in Field events must be measured by the Referee.

MEASURING

Measure from the nearest mark made by the implement to the inside of the circumference of the circle along a line from the mark to centre of the circle. Measurement should be made with a certified steel or fibre-glass tape graduated in centimeters.

The zero end of the tape is held in the field at the break in the ground or mark of the implement landing nearest to the throwing circle.

The tape is pulled back through the centre of the circle and the distance read at the inside edge of the stop-board-circumference of the circle.

THROWING

12 minutes allowed for each trial.

A competitor is allowed to touch the inside of the iron band or stop-board.

Foul - if after competitor has stepped into the circle and begun to make a throw, he touches with any part of his body the ground outside the circle, or improperly releases the implement in making any attempt.

A competitor must not leave the circle until the implement has touched the ground and he then, from a standing position under control, leaves the circle from the rear half.

The implement must fall so that the point of impact is within the inner edges of lines marking a sector of 40 degrees.

Implements must be carried back to the throwing area - never thrown back.

The official interpretation of Aleave the circle from the rear half@ is that it is not required to actually step into the rear half of the circle when leaving so long as the thrower leaves under control and steps outside the circle behind the line drawn through the circle.
