Based on a recommended Action in the research Report, Reflection and Renewal in P.E.I. School Libraries (Doiron and Davies, 1996), the Prince Edward Island Department of Education launched the development of an "Information Literacy" document for the public education system in this province. This was primarily the responsibility of the School Library Standing Committee and its Chair, Resource-Based Learning Consultant, Judy Davies. The Committee accepted the advice contained in the research Report, and an ad hoc committee was formed, with the sole mandate of beginning the development of this document during the 1997-98 school year. The Information Literacy (ad hoc) Committee was comprised of educators from diverse backgrounds and experiences, with the following membership. Now it is up to you, the user of this document, to make the best possible use of their work... to find whatever will assist you and your students in the development of information literacy. There is only one condition. You are encouraged to support other edu-cators by sharing what you have learned, and by visiting and using the services provided by our Building Site. Although these activities are developed using the Atlantic Canadian Curriculum, we hope many of these can be adapted and used by educators in other places! Thank you for visiting our site and we hope you will return frequently. Remember, this is a site created by and for educators and, together we'll share the best strategies for Building Information Literacy.
