The Deadly Dare

It was October 31,2003, Halloween. Kelly King and her friends, Martha and Karen, had finished trick or treating and were heading to the King's house for a fun-filled, candy-filled, Halloween slumber party.
The three girls were in grade seven at Birchwood Junior High School. There was a girl, Sharon Simon, who had attended Birchwood in grade seven who had died on Monday, four days before Halloween. Sharon Simon was a very lonely girl, who was often picked on by anyone and everyone. Word had it around Birchwood that Sharon had committed suicide because she couldn't handle having no friends and being picked on all the time. Some Birchwood students also claimed that Sharon had told them that someday she would get all the people who had bullied her.
Well, the three friends reached the King's house and began inspecting all the candy they had. They also began chatting about Sharon.
"Hey Martha, wasn't that Sharon girl in your class," asked Karen.
"Yeah, and she was a loser too. I picked on her because she had no friends," Martha replied.
"Aren't you scared, Martha? I mean, people are saying that Sharon said that she'll get everyone who picked on her," Kelly added.
"Get real, Kelly! I mean, what can Sharon Simon do to me? I mean she's dead," Martha exclaimed.
"Well, if you're so sure, Martha, then I dare you to go to the graveyard and put a sign that says 'You don't scare me Sharon!' at the foot of her grave," challenged Karen.
"Fine, I will," said Martha.
So Martha went to the graveyard with a hand written sign and a flashlight.
Meanwhile, back at the King's, Karen and Kelly chatted and gobbled down candy. After two hours had passed, the girls became a little worried, but an hour later the two girls drifted to sleep.
The next morning Martha still hadn't returned, so the two frantic friends, Karen and Kelly, ran to the graveyard to find their friend. When they arrived at the graveyard and found Sharon's grave, they also found Martha with her shoelace caught on a small bush beside Sharon's grave, the sign and flashlight at her side. Martha was dead! They figured she had died of fright caused by the thought of Sharon grabbing her.
From that day Karen and Kelly and all the students of Birchwood never picked on or made fun of anyone again.
