Birchwood Intermediate School

"Quality Education in a Caring, Disciplined Environment"

Internet Safety Program

"Missing" is an amazing interactive CD-ROM program which focuses on personal safety when using the Internet. It is based on the true story of a Canadian teenager who was abducted following the use of Internet chat rooms, web pages, and e-mail. The program involves students working through a variety of activities in an attempt to aid police in finding the missing boy. An important part of each segment of this program is the discussion component.

The Department of Education has worked with the R.C.M.P. and the PEI Home and School Federation to evaluate, field test, and promote this Internet safety resource. It is available for use in Island schools for grades 6 through 9.

Birchwood students and parents have had an opportunity to participate in the Internet Personal Safety Program "Missing". It has received positive and eye-opening responses from participants. Please contact Ms. Connell for further information.
