


Adolfo Perez Esquivel was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1931. His interests included architecture and sculpting. He became a Professor of Architecture. In 1974 he left his teaching to co-ordinate activities of non-violent elements in Latin America. Also in 1974 he founded a human rights organization called the Service for Peace and Justice.
The U.N. made a Human Rights Commission in 1976 because of Perez's persuading. In 1980 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to human rights in Latin America.
