Albert Schweitzer was born in
Kaysersburg, Alsace. Then he lived in Germany. For nine
years Albert Schweitzer dedicated himself to studying science,
theology and music. Then, he devoted the rest of his life towards
directly serving humankind by setting up a hospital in Gabon, Africa,
to help people who had no access to health care. That is,
Albert Schweitzer devoted his life to an effort to bring health care
to a then distant part of the world. In 1952, Albert Schweitzer
received the Nobel Peace Prize. All of the money he received
from the prize was put towards building a new building in his camp at
Lambarene to house lepers. Schweitzer spent almost fifty years
of his life working in Africa, healing sick people who would have
died had they not been helped.
