Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu
Kyi was born June 19, 1945, in Rangoon, Burma. Her father was
the Burmese General (Aung San). On January 1, 1972, Aung San
Suu Kyi married Micheal Aris. Aung San Suu Kyi went to school
outside of Burma but she returned to Burma in 1988 to lead the
National League for Democracy in opposition to the ruling military
regime. She was in house arrest from 1989 to 1995. Aung
San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for fighting for Human
Rights. She is still alive today.
