Desmond Tutu

Bishop Desmond Tutu, the Nobel Peace Prize winner of 1984, can be described as the Martin Luther King Jr of Africa.  Under pressure from his native black community, Tutu fought for four things:

• Equal civil rights for all
  

• The abolition of South Africa's passport laws
  
• A common system of education
  
• The cessation of forced deportation from South Africa to the so called"homeland"

Bishop Tutu is known internationally for his social and democratic contributions in changing the lives of the people of South Africa.
