
Georges Pire
Georges
Pire was born on February 10, 1910 in Belgium. Pire entered a
Dominican monastery at the age of 18 and he was ordained in
1934. He also taught moral philosophy and sociology.
During World War II he participated in the Belgium resistance movement. He was the leader of the Relief Organization for Refugees. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1958 for his efforts to help refugees to leave camps and to return to a life of freedom and dignity.
