
Henri LaFontaine was born in Brussels in 1854. He was first and foremost a professor of International Law until he entered politics as a senator in Belgium. On the road to winning the peace prize in 1913, he became president of the International Peace Bureau. He then received a spot on the Belgium delegation at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 and the First Assembly of the League of Nations from 1920 - 1921.
