Ralph
Bunche was born August 7, 1904, in Detroit. He went to the
University of California and Harvard University.
Ralph
Bunche was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950 for meditating a
truce between the New State of Israel and its neighbours and for
scoring a stunning success for the United Nations in its first role
as peace-keeper.
Bunche
was the first African American and the eleventh American to win the
Peace Prize. He won the award over 28 other nominees and wanted
to turn the award down because he thought that what he did shouldn't
receive an award. He died in 1971.
