Tenzin Gyatso 14th Dalai Lama


Tenzin Gyatso was the 14th Dalai Lama.  He was born on July 6,1935 in a small village called Taktser in northeastern Tibet.  He began his education at the age of 6 and completed the Geshe Lharampa degree (Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy) when he was 26 in 1959.  He won the Nobel Peace Prize because in 1950 80,000 Peoples Liberation Army invaded Tibet so he went to Beijing to talk peace with Chinese leaders, and in 1959 the army was forced to get out of the country.  So he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for promoting peace in Tibet.
