Promising Years

The winters were long
and the summers were bleak
waiting for those tanks
to go down the street.
We stayed in our house
for most of the day,
until, of course, they gave us the okay.
We lived like this
for most of the time
because of our race, religion,
but not of any crime.
Now the years look promising,
we wonder what we'll do
maybe share our stories
with the ones
that did not have to go through.

As I finish this off
I just want to say
there were millions of people
that had to go through this
every single day.
