From Our Home & School:
Thanks
to the parents who attended our recent Playground Committee meeting and Home and
School meeting. Now that we have a sizable amount of money raised we’re
starting the serious planning portion of our playground project. Let us know
what you and/or your child would like to see added to our grounds!

Mrs. Baird and the Grade 5 French class would like to thank all of our
parents for contributing to our French Café last week. It’s a fun activity
that is always enjoyed by the class and the special guests that attend.
Please mark Friday, May 25th
on you calendar to attend our annual K-6 Spring concert entitled: “A Tribute
to Wait Disney!” Everyone is invited to attend our afternoon concert beginning
at 1pm. The K-9 classes will be previewing our concert that morning at 10am.
Our fiddle students are very
busy practising for our year end fiddle concert. It will be held on Friday, June
8th at 1 pm. Everyone is invited.
The Seniors Reading program
at Donagh Regional began in April. Volunteers from within the community
volunteer one hour weekly or bi-weekly to come into our school and read with out
students. It is both rewarding for the volunteers and students. Volunteers are
still required. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Ronita Baird @ rmbaird@edu.pe.ca
or 569-7720.
PLibrary
News:
We
recently received a new shipment of books for the library, to add to our diverse
and growing collection. It is great to see the students making use of all the
resources. We have many avid readers and other developing readers who will
follow in their footsteps. “I must say
that I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go
to the library and read a book.” ~Groucho Marx ~.
Different Stages for different ages: To make the cooking experience a
positive one be sure to give your child an age appropriate task that he or she
can be successful at. Also, remember to keep your kids safe by supervising them
closely in the kitchen.
P
Literacy
Bit:
As their children’s first
teachers and role models, parents strive to provide consistent, positive
examples for their children. Your involvement and support as a parent can
influence your child’s attitudes and his or her interest and achievement in
reading and writing.
Here are some suggestions of
ways in which you can actively demonstrate your own interest in reading and
writing:
·
Talk regularly with your
child about things you have read in newspapers, magazines, and books. Ask your
child what he or she has been reading.
·
Show that you read for a
variety of purposes. Write grocery lists with your child. Write notes with your
child when comparing items in different stores – for example, notes on
measurements and colors of bicycles. Write a letter to the editor of your local
newspaper on a topic you feel strongly about, or a letter of complaint to a
manufacturer whose product is unsatisfactory.
PField
Trip:
Charlottetown
Rural High School Production is presenting “ANNIE” on the main stage at the
Confederation of the Arts. The students at Donagh Regional are attending the
matinee on May 9th at 9:45 am. The home and school has generously
provided the coverage for the bus fare so it is keeping the cost down for the
students to attend. It is $6.00 and the students will be leaving the school at
9:00 am and will be back in time for lunch.
