Music

Our talented students are well into an exciting year of learning about and making music at Dundas Consolidated.  We are using "Share the Music" grades 1 to 6 resource which provides us with a wealth of music materials and songs to listen to, take part in and explore.

Grades 7/8 have completed a 5 part video series on the Orchestra making great use of descriptive paragraphs in their test.  We are planning an "O Canada" Rocket Hockey adventure at the end of the month which provides an opportunity for fine focus and fun for our students.

Our special season celebrations provide a rich array of learning opportunities.  Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Remembrance Day give us wonderful songs and  musical content from which to learn. We look forward to our annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 19th (storm day is Dec. 21st) when our students share their best for you and their community.

Our grades 5/6 class have just completed taping of "The Birthday of a King" song to be included in the Children's Wish Foundation Christmas 2006 CD.  Orders can be placed  through our school to purchase this special CD which will be available in late November.  I am very proud of the quality which these singers captured in their singing!

Each spring our grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 students take part in the King's County Music Festival at King's Playhouse in Georgetown.  They have been the recipients of numerous annual trophies and awards and in May 2003, they received the Harold J. Hynes Trophy for Elementary School Choirs.

Dundas School offers Music classes to all students every second day for 30 minutes.  All students are involved in our annual Christmas Concert in December and our Spring Concert in June.  Since we are a small school, each class presents a large portion of the concert in a variety of songs some featuring costumes, props, actions or dances.  Our Junior High students each year present a Christmas play.  We are very proud of the fine presentations of our students who focus their talents for a fine show!  Thank you to family members and friends who support these annual showcases of talent!

Mrs. Anne White has been teaching our Music Program for several years and she eagerly focuses on developing the singing voices of all our young people.  The Music Program includes tonal and rhythmic activities, music reading, listening and appreciation, learning about instruments plus playing recorders and keyboards in the older grades.  Mrs. White hopes you enjoy this glimpse of our Music Program!
