Archives Our school had been very active in many web-based projects over the years. We have decided to continue to make available all of our projects in an archive. We hope that you enjoy all of our hard work. Please note: Clicking on any one of these links will open a new browser on your computer! Arts Smarts During the school year, 2005-06, Eastern Kings Consolidated School was lucky enough to have been chosen to participate in the ArtsSmarts project. This gave us the means and opportunity to have local artists visit our school, sharing their knowledge and skills with both students and teachers. Over the period of a few months, we created three incredible projects while working with talented artists. Grade 4, 5, and 6 students learn what school was like in different parts of Eastern PEI before consolidation and how education has changed as a result. Students enjoyed interviewing the seniors and this allowed them to connect with an older generation that they may not otherwise connect with. Grade 7 and 8 students learn about how the Elmira train station used to operate and the different jobs that the seniors had at the station, along with realizing that the Elmira Railway Station is an important historical part of their community. Students enjoyed interviewing the seniors, while allowed them to connect with an older generation that they otherwise might not have come into contact with. FishingGrade 7 and 8 students, through the cooperation and hard work on behalf of many people in our community, preserve the fishing history of Eastern Kings for future generations. Youth of a Digital Age Eastern Kings Consolidated was a host school for a program called Youth of the Digital Age. This program was sponsored by Tech PEI and the Morell Region Community Learning Center. Youth of the Digital Age gave students in Grades 5 to 8 the opportunity to learn how to make their own web pages using HTML coding. The students that were involved worked on their web pages for a total of 20 hours and they did a wonderful job. Charlotte's Web The grade 3/4 classroom at Eastern King's Consolidated School read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, and did a lot of activities related to the novel, such as writing and illustrating a new chapter, researching a spider, writing newspaper articles, making dream catchers, and presenting a Reader's Theatre to the school. They really enjoyed this novel and hope you visit their website. Students researched and conducted interviews with former teachers and students in the Eastern Kings area. They talk about their experiences and share stories on how they were affected by the One Room School house. This fall fun activity was created to enhance the classroom learning of the grade 5/6 class.
