Code of Conduct

All expectations concerning student conduct at our school hinge upon a basic respect for others, property and for self. Good rules and guidelines can always be explained in terms of respect and safety. At Eastern Kings Consolidated School we are a community of friends and learners. The following Code of Conduct is designed to help us in all endeavors. This code applies to all school related activities (in school, on buses, on field trips, extracurricular activities, playground etc.).

Our code is based on the PEI School Act and the Eastern School District's "Caring Places to Learn/Safe School Environment" Policy. These documents are at the school if you wish copies.

From the school Act, Section 72, Student Responsibilities are listed as:

  • To observe the code of conduct and other rules and policies of the School Board and of the School.
  • To attend classes regularly and punctually and participate in the educational programs in which the student is enrolled.
  • To be diligent in pursuing other student's studies.
  • To respect the rights of others.

Expectations

  • I will take responsibility for myself, my actions, my learning and accept the consequences of my decision (examples: be prepared, keep focused, homework completed).
  • I will make our school a safe place (examples: hands off, no fighting, bullying or bad language).
  • I will respect our school, school property, others and their property (examples: keep a clean environment and no stealing).

Bus Behavior

Bus Behavior is very important to the safe travel on the bus. As adults we are aware of driving strains. We all have to work to help students understand the importance of proper behavior on the buses.

Students who misbehave on the bus will be subject to the following consequences:

  • The first offence results in a warning to the student. It may or may not be written up depending the severity of the offence and parents may or may not be informed.
  • The second offence results in a contact to the parents from the Principal or designate. Second offences will be written up.
  • The third and subsequence offences will be written up and parents will be contacted. It may result in the loss of bus privileges for a period of time.

If problems continue to persist, transportation maybe suspended for a period of time.

Process & Consequences

Consequences will be considered carefully, applied consistently, be age appropriate and range from mild to serve depending on:

  • Severity of the infraction;
  • Number of times the infraction has occurred previously;

Consequences may include:

  • A verbal reminder/warning
  • Loss of privileges
  • Shadowing the teacher on the playground
  • Time out
  • Loss of recess
  • Alternate work location
  • After-school detention
  • In-school suspension
  • Out-of-school suspension

Parents will be contacted if an in-school suspension or an out-of-school suspension occurs.

All cases of fighting will be sent to the Principal's office. Cases of fighting may result in loss of recess, ongoing problem solving sessions, in-school or an out-of-school suspension.

Student Consequences

Students who belligerently refuse to cooperate or follow instructions will be sent home as soon as parents/guardians can be contacted.
