Special Announcement Concerning Peanut Allergies

Dear Parents/Guardians, This September, several students in our school will have severe, life-threatening allergies to peanut butter, peanuts and products containing nut. A review of our procedures was recently conducted by Health and Social Services Department and it was recommended that our school implement a voluntary peanut-free policy. This policy, as outlined in the Minister’s Directive - Procedures for Dealing with Life-Threatening Allergies will ensure East Wiltshire Intermediate becomes as safe an environment as possible for these students. East Wiltshire will be expanding its peanut and nut-alert zones to include the entire school. Because all students travel throughout the building to Specialist classes, assemblies, water fountains, and our playgrounds, the only way to provide the safest environment is to exclude all peanut and other nut products from lunches and snacks. September 8, 2009, this will become an everyday POLICY!!! Your cooperation in helping East Wiltshire Intermediate be a safe environment for all students is much appreciated.
