Parent Survey Request

PEI Home & School WebPage

Dear Presidents / Co-Chairs  and  Principals:

Over the past few years the Federation has received a number of inquiries from parents and
principals regarding fundraising activities undertaken by local home and school associations / parent councils. We know that parents want to be involved in their child’s school community and are willing to support projects aimed to generate funds that benefit their child’s education. The approach to fundraising varies from school to school and this has led to some uncertainty as to the role of fundraising and to the acceptable use of the money raised.

In response to these inquiries and to provide greater clarity on fundraising, the Federation has drafted fundraising guidelines for local home and school associations / parent councils. These guidelines are designed to establish a process for the generation and distribution of funds raised through initiatives organized by home and school associations. With these guidelines, the Federation is seeking to align fundraising activities with the education priorities of the school as identified through the school development process.

The federation would like to hear from parents and principals. What do you think about these fundraising guidelines? Do you agree with aligning fundraising activities with the school development plan? Can you suggest improvements to the guidelines? Do you have any concerns about the guidelines? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The draft guidelines can be linked from the front page of the PEI Home and School Federation website  www.edu.pe.ca/peihsf/ under News and Events.

It would be great if you would make parents in your school aware of the draft guidelines by posting a link on the school’s website and putting a notice in the school newsletter. Also, we ask that you please put this on the agenda for your next home and school / parent council meeting.

In order to get the guidelines finalized early in the new year, we have set a deadline of January 31, 2010 for feedback. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me ( wwhelan@upei.ca ) or Shirley Jay  at the Federation Office peihsf@edu.pe.ca .

The Eliot River and Westwood Home and School Association welcomes you for the 2007-2008 school year! Our Home and School is very active and we look forward to your enthusiastic participation. Our first general meeting will take place in October (a notice will be sent home in plenty of time!), and we look forward to seeing you.

Welcome Back from Your Home and School Association!

For those parents who are new to our school, the Eliot River/Westwood Home and School Association is a group made up of parents and staff from both schools. For more information about Home and School and its importance to you and your child, please read introduction on the back of this letter.

IS YOUR CHILD WORTH

A few hours a year?

That’s all that’s required when you join the Eliot River/Westwood Home and School Association.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

Home and School is a volunteer, non-profit organization made up of individuals like you and me.

Home and School is an advocacy group working on behalf of school-age children provincially and nationally. Curriculum content, class size, school bus safety, drugs and health education - these are just a few of the current issues being raised with the government, all issues within your child’s school.

As you can see the more members Home and School has, the stronger voice it has.

WHEN ONE PERSON SPEAKS ALONE…

When one person speaks alone, it’s an opinion.

When 10 of us speak together, it’s a concern.

When 50 of us speak together, it’s a strong suggestion.

When 200 of us speak together, it’s a movement.

But, when all families and group affiliates speak together,

It’s a victory for our Children!

WILL I BE PUT ON COMMITTEES IF I JOIN?

Absolutely not! Only those who volunteer freely will be placed on a committee.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND ALL THE MEETINGS?

No, only attend the ones that are convenient to you. Remember, the more meetings you attend, the more informed you will be and the more input you would have. Your concerns and suggestions are always important to the Eliot River/Westwood Home and School.

HOW DO I JOIN?

You can contact any member of the Home and School executive, or, if you’re not sure, attend a meeting to see what you think.

We know life can be chaotic and that time is often a precious commodity, but

Your Child IS Worth It!
