Our first Heritage Fair took place on Thursday, February 23/06 in the school
gym. All students in grades 4, 5 and 6
participated as these projects were part of an academic requirement. The grade 5 and 6 students
were eligible to
attend the Provincial Heritage Fair to be held in Charlottetown. Only those
selected by a team of judges were able to attend.
February 20-24 is National Heritage Week. Student projects needed to be ready well
ahead of time. Each grade 4-6 teacher judged their own projects for a class
mark. The Fair itself had two sections. In the morning, the judges
reviewed each project. Only those being immediately judged
were in the gym.
Students were called down as projects were needed. The judges needed this quiet
time to give an accurate score for each project. This should be completed by noon
hour. In the afternoon, at 1:00 p.m., grades 1, 2 and 3 viewed all of the
projects. Also, parents and/or relatives were able to look at the Fair. Prizes for
placements were awarded at about 2:30 p.m.
Students had an outline as to how they
were judged . Deadlines were given when to decide on a topic to
work on.
Some reminders!
- If your son/daughter is working with a partner, make sure the work is shared
- not all left up to one person!
- If a grade 5 student is presenting with a grade 6 student, they will be judged
as a grade six project.
- Parents are encouraged to "help" - "not do" the project.
- Storm date
was Friday, February 24/06
