ELM STREET SCHOOL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

This is a program which involves older children contributing to the overall life of the school. It has been put into place and is overseen and run by the physical education teacher, Kim McNeill. There are numerous grade 6 students which are chosen each year to form the group. These students must demonstrate leadership qualities in the classroom and on the playground. These students will work with the intramural program everyday in some way, shape of form.  Two or three grade 5 students are invited to join the group after Christmas as trainees for the following year. These students work with the intramural program. They are also involved with activities to develop and promote school spirit.

INTRAMURALS
After attending a refereeing clinic, the leadership committee takes control of the intramurals program. They referee, work the lines, keep score and make sure games operate efficiently and on time.

SCHOOL SPIRIT
The leadership group also organizes activities to promote school spirit. These can be seasonal activities such as the organizing of a pumpkin-carving contest during Halloween or a Winter Eagle Mania week for winter carnival or it can be a project of a more permanent and long-term nature. The leadership committee undertook decorating the gym. They painted large athletic figures on the walls of the gym. Another group was responsible for painting a huge elm tree on the wall of the school as part of the Elm Street School Birthday Tree project. Leadership members also act as "runners" during assemblies and assist in hosting Parent Information Night. The leadership group also painted figures on the bathroom doors to add some character and color.

The group meets every Thursday to assign their duties for the week. The members rotate their jobs from one week to the next.
