THE ELM STREET SCHOOL LIBRARY PROGRAM

The Elm Street School library is a very busy spot. Children using the library have access to the Internet as well as to several computers and many CD-ROM programs. The library is open for book exchanges at various times throughout the day. As well, the librarian has been working with many teachers on staff to cooperatively plan theme units. Centers are set up in the library where classes, working in small groups of 2 to 4, circulate through the centers gathering information about a certain topic or doing activities related to the theme under study. These centers often use a variety of multi-media such as film strip viewers, listening centers, TV and VCR as well as computers.

The Elm Street School library contains an excellent selection of French books, magazines and software to accomodate the school's French Immersion students.

The library collection at Elm Street school now uses Microcat and beginning in Grade 1, students learn many library skills required to do research.
