The Music Program at Elm Street School

"Musical training is more potent than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul." - Plato

Music classes at Elm Street School are scheduled for a twenty-five minute period every second day. The P.E.I. Elementary Music Curriculum Guide, Grades 1 to 6, by the Prince Edward Island Department of Education is the approved program of study. The goals of the elementary school are to enable the learner to develop: intellectual competencies in communication, numeracy, the arts, science, and social studies; attitudes and habits which promote physical well being; a sense of self-worth and appreciation of the worth of all individuals; the ability to think creatively and to make decisions effectively; and a positive attitude towards learning. The textbooks used are MUSICANADA.  Audio and video recordings, Orff instruments and numerous games are all used to enhance this program. Mini-concerts, Christmas Concerts, school carol sings, variety shows, the school musical, and the Elm Street School Choir all offer enrichment to the music program.

Elm Street School's music teacher,Deborah Voye, would like to receive your comments.
