Elm Street School organizes a Science Fair in the gym every year. This activity promotes the importance of science as part of the school curriculum and in our daily lives. It permits the students to research, prepare and present a project on a specific topic related to science. Some classes include the project as part of their Science curriculum while others leave it up to the individual to prepare on his or her spare time. Projects may include a poster, an experiment or a model.
Only the students from Grades 4-6 are eligible to enter the School Science Fair. Some of the other classes hold a mini Science Fair in their own classroom. The projects are judged by people from all over Prince Edward Island. Each grade level is entered in a separate category. As well, French Immersion students are encouraged to prepare a project with a French component. Prizes for the English projects are provided by the school while Canadian Parents for French provides prizes for the projects which include a French component.
The School Science Fair was held on Friday, February 9th. The winners from the School Science Fair went on to the Regional Science Fair which was held on Saturday, March 3rd. The results from the Regional Science Fair were as follows:
|
Grade4 |
Grade 5 | Grade 6 |
| 1st Place | 1st Place | 1st Place |
| 3rd Place | 3rd Place | 2nd Place |

Congratulations to these students and to everyone else that participated in the Regional Fair.

Thank you, also, to all our grade 4-6 teachers who gave above and beyond for our students with all the work they gave for the Science Fair.
One of the resources available for the students who participate in the fair can be found on the internet at the PEI Science & Technology Awareness Site.
