Hockey Day in Canada:

Great news! Englewood School has been one of only four Island schools selected to be part of Scotia Bank's Hockey Day in Canada. We will have Bryan Trottier, P.J. Stock and Gord Stellick as special guests for an assembly here on February 9th from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m.)  To celebrate Hockey Day in Canada, we are encouraging students and staff to wear hockey jerseys, t-shirts, hats, scarves, etc. on February 9th.  (Please, no hockey sticks.)

CBC may be filming so if there are any parents who would not like their child(ren) filmed, please notify the school.

We will be busy preparing for the assembly and we are really excited to be part of this special celebration.

Spelling Bee:  Congratulations to Brooke MacKenzie who was the winner of the Englewood Spelling Bee.  Brooke will represent Englewood in the Regional Spelling Bee held at UPEI on February 25, 2012.

After School Junior Curling:  There will no Junior Curling on Monday, February 13th or Monday, February 20th, 2012.  Curling will resume the following Monday.

Literacy Bits for Parents:  Introducing A new Book

Taking the time to introduce a new book to your child will pave the way for more success in reading and

understanding the book.  This is true for books that your child is reading or books that you are reading to him or her.

other books you have shared.

Science Fair:  Our school Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, February 22 here at Englewood.  (In case of a storm, the fair would be held on the next school day.)  All students doing a project have been in touch with Mrs. DeRoche concerning project ideas and process for doing the project.  If parents have any questions, they are encouraged to contact Mrs. DeRoche by phone (658-7850) or email (nlderoche@edu.pe.ca).

Book Fair:  Our winter book fair will be held from February 13th through the 17th.  At this fair, we could potentially earn up to 70% of our totals back in books and product.  We will have a family night on Monday, February 13th.  If any parents are available to volunteer during the family night or during parent-teacher interviews, you are asked to contact Mrs. DeRoche (658-7850 or nlderoche@edu.pe.ca).  More details will be going home as we get closer to the actual book fair.

Literacy Night:  Staff will be hosting a literacy session on Thursday, February 2 at the school.  Look for a letter coming home with a sign up slip.  Looking forward to seeing you!
