*A registration form will need to be completed at the time.

The goal of this program is to ensure all of our children enter public education with a

Foundation in literacy nurtured at home which will position them for school success

and lifelong learning.

School Pictures are due in the office Thursday, November 3rd.  It is important to send pictures back as soon as possible in order for you to have them back in time for Christmas cards!  Retakes are available on Monday, November 7th, 2011.  The photographer has requested that if a retake is required, simply hand your picture envelope to the photographer on Retake Day.

Scholastic Book Fair:  This week the book fair is being held in the library.  The fair will be open during interviews on Thursday evening and Friday morning.  We had our Family Event on Tuesday and it was a smashing success.  A huge thank you to all who come out to support our library and a very special thank you to our volunteers: Karen Cheverie, Diane Lawlor, Ann Millar, and Shannon MacLeod.

Outdoor Clothing:  Parents are asked to please send your children with coats, hats and mittens.  We are noticing students coming to school wearing only sweaters.  We suggest that if your child is  wanting to wear a skirt to school, that they also wear leggings.  The weather is cooling off and our playground can be quite windy.

Grade 9 Fundraiser:  Englewood School’s Grade 9 class will be holding a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, November 19th  at Englewood School from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Come out and let someone else prepare your Saturday morning breakfast!!

Band Announcements:

Grade 7-9 Wind Ensemble uniform fittings will be held during parent-teacher interview hours on Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th (until 1:00).  The uniform order will be placed early next week.

The Grade 7-9 Wind Ensemble will be performing with East Wiltshire at the Bluefield Family of Schools Concert held at East Wiltshire on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m.  Wind Ensemble members must be at the school by 6:15p.m.  More details will follow.  All are welcome to attend.

Grade 6 Band Parents:  An important meeting will be held on Monday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the band room.  A detailed email was sent out regarding the meeting.

All band parents/guardians:  The majority of communication of band information will be sent by EMAIL (as requested by parents).  If you have not received emails from me this week, I need your address.  Send it to sadarsenault@edu.pe.ca   Thank you!  Ms. Arsenault

Remembrance Day Ceremony:  Englewood staff and students will be taking part in a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011.  It will begin shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Terry Fox Celebration Assembly:  Englewood held our Terry Fox celebration on Monday, October 17th, 2011 with special guest,  Mr.  Fred Fox, Terry’s brother.  He spoke at an assembly with all of our students present.  They were captivated as Mr. Fox spoke about Terry and some of his earlier life growing up and about his goal to run across Canada.

Three challenges were issued for raising funds this year.  First, if students raised over $1500, Mr. Salter would shave his mustache (which he has had for over 30 years).  Second, a group of grade 6 boys challenged the school to raise over $1700 (beating last year’s total of $1690).  If this challenge was met, we would “Buzz the Boys.”  Finally, Mr. Jarvis Mill, our custodian, stated that if a pledge was brought in from every student in the school, he would shave his head.  Englewood was successful and met all three challenges – raising over $2300.  A final total will be calculated very soon.

Much to the delight of the students, all of the challenge issuers came to the stage.  Rayann MacLean and Whitney Paynter came up to help shave off Mr. Salter’s mustache.  Next Kim Curley game buzz cuts to Noah Curley, Lorne Wood, Zachary Conway, and Shamus Warren.  Brock Parkin was also part of the challenge, but was sick on Monday.  Finally, Kim shaved Jarvis Mill’s head.

Englewood was recognized with a banner for over 10 years dedication to the Terry Fox Run, and we look forward to another successful year next year.  Thanks to everyone who supported the cause again this year.

Crapaud Skating Club will be held on Saturday, November 5th from 8:00-9:00 a.m.  at the South Shore Arena.  Ice time will be the same every Saturday.  For the first time we have a certified coach.  Joelle Perry will be our head coach this year.   She also coaches in Rustico and Sherwood and will be bringing her official Program Assistant (PA) with her as well.

Registration will be held the same day and will be held in the community room starting shortly after 8:00 a.m.  Put your kids on the ice and then come register them.   If you are unable to make the first day, you can register on any Saturday or contact me by emailing to make arrangements to register.

There are two boxes of figure skates that people are welcome to come and pick a pair out as well as some boys hockey skates.  If you have an old pair, bring them in so someone else can use them.  There are also a limited number of new skates at work that just came in so if you let me know your size, I can see if I have it.  These skates are at no charge and people are welcome to keep them.  All skates are donated by Sport PEI.

If for any reason you are unable to register your kids due to a monetary shortage, please contact me and I will help you get into one of the several assistance programs for sports such as Kidsport or Jumpstart.  All names are confidential and will not be made public.

See you all Saturday.  Please forward any questions you may have on to me.
