Englewood is very proud of Helen Nicholson who was one of three winners of the Canadian Family’s Great Teacher Award.  Englewood staff and students have always known that Mrs. Nicholson is a great teacher!

Thank you:

-          To McLellan, Brennan Barristers Solicitors who donated $250 to be used for Literacy resources here at Englewood School in recognition of Helen Nicholson’s award.

-          To Valerie Docherty who donated money to our school from the Liberal Association Summer Social.   Mrs. Docherty and her husband,  Alex, also made a personal donation and the funds from both donations were put together to purchase an LCD projector for the library.

-

Staffing Change:  Ms. Lynn Hufnagel will be taking on the position of Intermediate  and Secondary Inclusive Education Consultant at the Eastern School District from  September 26th until October 28th.  In her absence, Mrs.  Melissa McKinnon (returning from maternity leave) will be taking on Ms. Hufnagel’s resource duties and   Mr. Kent Butler will be acting Vice-Principal.

Meet the Teacher Night:  We would like to thank parents/guardians who visited with us during Meet The Staff night.  We look forward to working with you as the 2011-2012 school year unfolds.

Supply  and School Fees:  If you have not already paid the supply fee (K to 5) and student fee (Gr. 6-9), please send a cheque or cash to your child(ren)’s home room teacher as soon as possible.  Cheques should be made payable to Englewood School.

Bussing:  We remind parents and students that we cannot have students traveling on busses, other than their own, for social purposes. (Ex. Birthday parties, haircuts, sleepovers,  etc.)  Our busses are full!

PEI School Accident Insurance Program:  Every eligible student attending public school in PEI is automatically insured by the PEI School Accident Insurance Program’s basic student accident coverage.  This coverage is provided without a deductible and at no cost to the student, parent/guardians or schools.  Basic coverage is provided to cover students during school hours, school activities, community-based learning activities and travel to and from their school.  Claims for coverage must be submitted within 30 days of the accident.  Visit our school board website www.edu.pe.ca/esd for more information on the basic coverage and how to purchase additional insurance.

In recognition of World Food Day on October 16, our school has decided to participate in the FCC Drive Away Hunger program by collecting donations of food for people who are hungry in our area.  By participating in this program, FCC will include our school in one draw for a $500 donation to be used to make improvements at the winning school.

We will be sending a food collection bag home with your child today so you and your child(ren) can donate as many food items as you wish to the local food bank.

For more information on FCC Drive Away Hunger, visit www.fccdriveawayhunger.ca.
