Absentees: A reminder to parents that the school would like a phone call (before 9:00 a.m.) if your child is absent. This should include letting us know if your child is ill, (cold or flu-like symptoms) at an appointment, etc. The school is required to record absentees and the numbers are checked each morning in conjunction with the Eastern School District and Dept. of Education. Thank you for your diligence.

FCC Drive Away Hunger: Notices have gone home with students regarding the Farm Credit Canada Drive Away Hunger Food Day (October 16). Food will be accepted here at the school until next Wednesday, October 14th, 2009. We would like to express our appreciation and commend our students and community for the overwhelming support shown for this worthy cause. Our foyer looks like a grocery store and it’s marvellous. Thanks so much.

Early Morning Drop-Off: There are a number of students being dropped off prior to 8:25 a.m. This causes concern from the school level because of the lack of supervision. We are asking that you contact the school if there is a special circumstance where it is necessary for your child to be dropped off here before 8:25 a.m.

We Appreciate You: We would be amiss if we did not recognize two ladies from our Home and School Association. Thank you to Bonnie Ralph and Cindy Darbyson who have been preparing the hot lunches for your children, since September. They are still looking for someone to prepare the hot meals (paid position) so if you are interested, please contact Home and School. Also, thank you to the entire Home and School executive for the time and effort you devote to Englewood students.

We appreciate you!

School Communication: At Englewood School we do ask any parents who are regular users of e-mail to share their e-mail addresses with us, if they so wish. On occasion, we send out e-mails about upcoming events, and teachers also have the ability to e-mail individual classes or individual parents. We will also send you an e-mail every time a new newsletter is sent out.

Jr. High parents - your e-mails are very important as your e-mail will give you access to your child’s marks on an on-going basis through Students Achieve.

If anyone feels that we should have their e-mail address and they have not yet received an e-mail from the school or if you have any questions about how to access Students Achieve, please contact Kent Butler - kabutler@edu.pe.ca

Band Parents’ Meeting: There will be a meeting for all band parents on Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the music room. We will be discussing fundraising, phone trees, our trip to Halifax, and any other business. Please try to attend this meeting. It is very important that we have as many parents as we can to discuss these issues. Please call Mr. Langille if you have any questions.

Thank You: We would like to thank the Augustine Cove Womens’ Institute for their generous donation to Englewood School for the purchase of books. Thank you for thinking about our students.

Ole King Cole is rather depressed as his birthday approaches - a medieval mid-life crisis! Consumed with self pity, Cole is only able to think of himself and looks down upon the common fold of his Kingdom. However, unbeknownst to the King, his children and friends (nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters we all know and love) have prepared a surprise entertainment tribute truly "fit for a King"! Come to the banquet for a four course meal. Follow the antics of the Royal Family as they plan their surprise, with the help of the royal subjects, and discover how Old King Cole finally sees the light!
