Ad Hoc Committee on School Attendance Zones

ACCEPTED AND APPROVED RECOMMENDATIONS
- May 25, 2011 School Board Meeting
Donagh Regional School
The request was to create dual zones that would allow students residing in Bethel, Mount Herbert, Mount Albion and the 48 Road to attend Donagh Regional School.

Six pieces of written input were received in addition to the original request.  The Ad Hoc Committee on School Attendance Zones also scheduled a public meeting at Donagh Regional on May 17, 2011 to receive input.

Based on the information received, the Official Trustee accepted and approved the following recommendation from the Ad Hoc Committee on School Attendance Zones:

To create dual zones in Bethel, Mount Albion and Mount Herbert, giving families a choice to attend Donagh Regional or Glen Stewart Primary/Stratford Elementary, to be effective for September 1, 2011.

(A dual zone in Avondale was not recommended at this time).

Mt. Stewart Consolidated School

Requests were received from the Mt. Stewart Home and School Association, the Chair of the Community of Mt. Stewart and forty-nine parents and/or community members.

The requests were to formally change the school attendance zone for Mt. Stewart Consolidated School to include the former school zones of St. Teresa's Consolidated and Tracadie Cross Consolidated Schools.  The new Mt. Stewart Consolidated School zone will house students from grades K 8 and these students will be zoned to Morell Senior High School for grades 9 12.

The Ad Hoc Committee on School Attendance Zones scheduled a public meeting on May 16, 2011 at Mt. Stewart Consolidated School to receive input.

Based on the information received, the Official Trustee accepted and approved the following recommendation from the Ad Hoc Committee on School Attendance Zones:

To formally change the school attendance zone for Mt. Stewart Consolidated School to include the former school zones of St. Teresa's Consolidated and Tracadie Cross Consolidated Schools.  The new Mt. In the course of gathering public input for Mt. Stewart Consolidated, the committee was informed of some discrepancies in a few boundary lines.  This area affected only a small number of students.  In the interest of not disrupting families, the District will continue with the status quo until such time as a comprehensive programming, transportation and rezoning plan can be completed.
