Physical Education

Health and social concerns for this era.
Our children are currently living in an era where health experts agree that their life span will be shorter than that of their parents.
Factors include: our children are exposed to less physical activity on a weekly basis both at home and at school, children are not encouraged or permitted to take advantage of the cold weather to enjoy winter activities, the closure of some sport facilities, the difficulty to have access of some facilities, the cost of joining sports, the cost of traveling to sport events and practices, the difficulty of getting children to after school sports, children being bussed, the easy access to fast food (calorie overload) and processed food to mention a few.
In addition, our neighborhoods are seemingly less safe, therefore children are often so closely supervised and less free to do activities that kids could do 20 or 40 years ago.
This is a sample of the obstacles we face bringing up the future generation, perhaps with vision and leadership, parents, schools and communities can look at positive changes for the future of our nation.

Schedule:
Every class has Physical Education every second day for a 25 minute class. The grades 3-6 have their class in the morning while the 1-2 have theirs in the afternoon.

Clothing:
Grade 1-2 - these students do not change for physical education however students are encouraged to wear appropriate exercise clothing, if at all possible.
All students are required to have 'indoor sneakers' for their school day and these are to be worn in the gym as well. These do not need to be non-marking and do not need to be expensive. Later in the school year (May and June) these students may have their classes outside - they will wear their outside shoes for this - remember that students find it difficult to run with rubber boots, sandals or flip flops, etc
Grade 3-6 -all students in these grades are expected to change from their regular clothes in to appropriate exercise clothing.  Indoor classes require students to have a top bottom and sneakers. Outdoor classes occur in the fall and spring.  Students are still expected to change however they may add wind pants or sweatpants  and a sweatshirt or jacket.

Intramurals and School Teams
These activities occur under supervision at recess and noon.
