Using
Character Map
This
program can be used to insert special characters (often the characters
with accents) into a document or to learn the Alt + Number Pad number
that you can use to insert special characters.
1)
On the school networks, minimize all Windows until you get access
the Usernet group where the Character Map Icon is stored.
(If this icon is not available, see your School Site Technical Contact
for help. They can use Usernet Group
Administration to assign this icon). On the Local partition
or on your home computer the Character Map icon can be accessed
through Start/Programs/Accessories
2)
Because the character which you will insert will appear where the
cursor is located, before continuning, make sure that the cursor
is located where you want to insert the special character.
Click on the Character Map icon.
3)
Select the character that you want to insert into your document
and pay attention to the Font that you are actually using in your
document. Then click INSERT or COPY TO CLIPBOARD
depending of your Windows version.

4)
The new character should appear in your document, if not press CTRL+V
to Paste it in the required place.
5)
Redo this process to insert another character.
6)
To download a different Font Map than the one furnished with Windows,
click
here and install this software (Meracl
FontMap 2.0) on the local partition of your computer
or on your homecomputer. This software cannot be installed on the
School network.
