BIOMASS POWER!

Two Biomass power plants that are located in Canada are both Woodchip Plants. One of these is located in Charlottown and the other is located in Anderson, Canada.

DESCRIPTION

Biomass is one of the oldest known to humans. Biomass power is the use of biomass feedstocks instead of the usual fossil fuels to produce electricity. Wood is the most widely used because wood-fired power systems have been in use for a long time and are well understood .

The production of power from Biomass Energy.

Step One: Burn the biomass to produce heat.
Step Two: Heat the water to turn it into steam.
Step Three: Use the steam to turn the turbines, which are conected to electric generators.
Step Four: The gasifiers heat the biomass and changes it into a gas that can be used in high efficient power systems.

Advantages of Biomass Power

Disadvantages of Biomass Power

  • Biomass fuels produce no sulfur.
  • Dedicated energy crops must be developed.
  • Biomass plants reduce the amount of waste sent to land fills.
  • Problems with soil erosion.
  • Creates many jobs.
    • Cost of biomass energy must become cost competitive with fossil fuels.
