Description

There is quite a bit of energy in the tides. This power can be utilized by a device called a tidal power generator. Tidal power generators can be placed in deltas, estuaries, and beaches. This is how they work.

The Production of Power from Tidal Energy

Step 1: Tide comes in.
Step 2: Lower floodgate when water has entered.
step 3: Wait for tide to go out.
step 4: The water will turn the water wheel


Advantages of Tidal Power

Disadvantages of Tidal Power

  • Cheap running costs
  • Large initial cost
  • Safe
  • power cannot be there continually
  • Tourist attraction
  • Can only be placed where tides are high

  • This power is used in Canada at the Fundy Tides in the Maritimes. It is used here because the tides are the highest in the world.
