!!Tidal Power!!

You can find a tidal power site in the Bay of Fundy found in Fredericton, New Brunswick, you can also find one in Halifax, Nova Scotia! A tidal power site uses the power of the tides {hints to the name Tidal Power} to create energy for your use!!

The Tidal Power stations look very much like this picture! {Below}

DID YOU KNOW??

That in 1874, Jules Verne, a science fiction writer investaged a world in which coal would be a thing of the past and could be replaced by water. Now Joules plans to make that dream become a reality!

The production of Power from Tidal Energy

Step One: A barrier is built across a river estuary to keep the water in.
Step Two: The basin fills with incoming tides when the tides go low the basin is still filled with water because it's trapped.
Step Three: When the tide is let go the flow of water causes turbine to move
Step Four : The generator is moved by the turbine causing electricity for your use!

Advantages of Tidal Power

Disadvantages of Tidal Power

  • After the construction of the machine it costs nothing to make because waves are FREE!!
  • It effects the habitat of sea birds and fish in the water anywhere near the site!!
  • Does not pollute the environment because no hazardous gasses are put out into the air!!
  • It will only provide power for 10 hours or less a day the rest must be conducted by another means!!
    • It is accessible wherever tides are accessible and the area can be used!!
  • It only provides about 7% of the power needed for England and Whales that means that some people get their energy close to free and some pay a lot of money!!
