My Life in Upper Canada
Upper Canada...1837. Horrific ship crossings... new settlers...undiscovered land...REBELLION!!
Welcome to the grade 8 history website at K.I.S.H. For three months, students re-created the lives of fictitious settlers to the New World. In order to write an accurate account of what life was like in Canada in 1837, students were required to write about many topics after having studied the ideas in class. They published their works in interesting ways to give the journals an authentic feel.
Students used various types of technology to bring these pages to life such as word processing, slide show, audio, digital photography, and graphics. The 1837 artwork was drawn by a couple of grade 8 students. The internet was used for some of the research. The novels which accompany the unit: "Rebellion" by Marianne Brandis and "A Question of Loyalty" by Barbara Greenwood were also located through the internet.
We hope you enjoy reading about life in 1837 through our eyes.
