Invention: Invented the first American cast steel plow. In 1855 John Deere sold plows for between $7.25 and $21.00. The first cast iron plow was patented in the U.S.A. in 1797. John Deere was elected the second mayor of Moline, Illinois in 1873. Deere and Company use 675,000 gallons of paint each year. The average life expectancy of a combine is 10 years or 3,000 - 3,5000 hours.
