Inventor's name: Anders Celsius
Date of birth: 1701
Date of death: 1744
Invention: He invented the Celsius thermometer. Celsius traveled to Sweden to find a length of a degree along the meridian close to the pole, later comparing it with similar measurements made in the southern hemisphere. This confirmed that the earth was the shape of an ellipsoid which is flattened to the poles.
