Invention: high pressure steam engine. High pressure was introduced into a cylinder , causing the piston to push down. Evans also placed the cylinder and the crankshaft at the same end instead of at opposite ends greatly reducing the overall weight.
Oliver Evans was one of America's pioneer inventors.
He also advanced the milling industry by automating flourmills.
He was born in Newport , Delaware .
As a young man , he ran a flourmill with two of his brothers.
James Watt invented the low pressure steam engine. Oliver Evans invented the high pressure steam engine.
