Invention: The first blood bank. His idea became a reality at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, it was the model for the beginning of the Red Cross. Dr. Charles became head director of the Red cross blood bank , but resigned from his position after they stated "Blood from a white human being should not be mixed with those of colors". Dr. Charles formed the Blood bank of Britain. He died of a car accident in Alabama, there is a legend he died because he was denied a blood transfusion and medical care from a "whites only" hospital.
