The most recent statistics indicate that eighty percent of a ll new small and
medium size businesses will be out of business within ten years. Many of these
new businesses fail early, not because their owners lack motivation or
determination, but because they fail to adequately prepare for business
ownership. Planning precedes performance. Planning takes time. Proper planning
will save time.

Assignment: Develop and present a business plan related to any particular
facet of the agriculture industry.
Written report should consist of the following.
 | A detailed description of your business. It needs to be an original, no
franchises. The description should include the name, type of product/service you
are offering, market, location and why your group decided on these aspects. |
| A cash flow forecast/ income projection will be required for a period of one
year as this is meant to be a year round business. However, exceptions can be
made depending on the nature of the business. |
| The forecast will include an accurate, realistic and detailed breakdown of
costs (rent, product, office supplies, loan repayment costs). |
| A realistic estimate of sales, with minimum and maximum, should be presented. |
| An advertising campaign will be necessary in terms of costs for ads. Radio,
TV and print advertising expenses should be researched but actual ads do not
need to be created. |
| A web page will need to be developed with links, but not actual pages. Your
web site is more than just advertising. It should be an introduction to your
business and used as a tool for sales. Hiring someone else to develop your web
page is permitted. |
| Slogans, uniforms/packaging should be developed if applicable. A store layout
may be beneficial. |
| Financing (where and how much) will be necessary, along with payment
schedules. |
Oral presentation criteria:
Each person will be expected to help present their business to the class.
