Turning The Power On
You can turn on the power by simply sliding open the lens barrier on the front of the camera until it clicks. When you turn on the camera, the number of remaining pictures are shown on the control panel.

Inserting SmartMedia Card
Open the flap on the front right hand side of the camera. Insert the SmartMedia card through the opening. Only use cards supplied with the camera Warning: NEVER open the open the card cover, eject the card, remove the batteries or pull the plug while the camera is in operation. This may destroy the data in the card. Also, this card is a precious instrument, handled with care and should not be subject to physical shocks.


Checking the number of remaining pictures
Turning on the power will allow you to see the number of remaining pictures on the control panel. The camera will emit a beep sound and the Condition indicator LED blinks every time the lens barrier is open when the number reaches zero. The recording mode you select will determine the number of remaining pictures. To choose the recording mode, press the recording mode selection button. Because the amount of data used varies depending on the subject, more pictures than the number shown may be photographed.

How to put the batteries in the camera:
This camera takes 4 AA nickel metal hydride batteries, AA lithium batteries, AA alkaline batteries or AA NiCd batteries. Do not use manganese batteries because they can overheat and destroy the camera. To insert the batteries in the camera, turn the lever on the bottom of the camera to the “open” picture. The flap with them pop open. Slide the batteries in as shown then turn the lever to the “close” picture and shut the flap. Make sure that the lens barrier is closed and the power is off before loading the batteries. When the batteries are running low the camera may sound several short beeps and blink the number of remaining pictures on the control panel after you take a picture or when you open up the lens barrier if this happens the picture you have just taking will not turn out properly.

Helpful Hints In Taking Pictures:
1. Hold the camera with both hands firmly.
2. To prevent the camera from moving, keep your elbows at your side.
3. When taking a vertical picture, hold the camera so that the flash is positioned at the top.
4. Before you take the picture, make sure your finger is not covering the lens.

Using the focus lock:
When taking a picture, if your subject is not within the auto focus marks, follow the following procedures of focus lock:
1. Position your subject within the auto focus marks and press the shutter release button down halfway.
2. When the focus is locked, the exposure will also be locked.
3. Keep the focus and press the shutter release button down fully to take the picture.

Using the flash modes:
This camera has four different flash modes that can be used. They are auto-flash mode, red- eye reduction flash mode, off mode, and fill-in flash mode. Choose one of these by pressing the flash mode button on the top of the camera. It is the first button to the right of the control panel. Keep pressing the button for different options that will be shown on the control panel.

To Take a Picture:
1. Look through the optical viewfinder and center the picture of what you want to take.
2. Press the shutter release button halfway so that the condition indicator LED lights. This locks the exposure and adjusts the focus.
3. Press the shutter release button down all the way to take the picture.
4. The camera will sound two short beeps to indicate that the shot has been taken.
5. When the indicators on the control panel and the condition indicator LED stop blinking, the camera is ready to take another picture.
6.When you turn the power off or even change the batteries, the pictures are still stored in the memory.

Displaying Pictures:

The LCD monitor can also display the pictures that you have taken. This works when the lens barrier is closed.
1. Turn the LCD monitor on by pressing the green ON/OFF button on the back of the camera.
2. Press the previous (-) button to see the previous pictures that you have taken . The preceding picture will appear with each press.
3. Press the next (+) button to see the next picture. The succeeding picture will appear with each press.
4. Make sure to wait until the picture is fully displayed before pressing any buttons.
5. If similar pictures have been taken, you may not see a change.

Erasing Pictures

You can delete pictures you do not want when the lens barrier is closed. One-Frame Erase:
1. Display picture you want to erase.
2. Press the erase mode button until the One- Frame erase indicator in the upper right corner of the LCD monitor lights. You can cancel by pressing the erase mode button again.
3. Press the OK button to erase the selected picture. The camera will make a short single beep and the selected picture is erased.
All-Frame Erase:
1. Display a picture.
2. Press the erase mode button and the flash mode button at the same time. In the upper right corner of the LCD monitor the All-Frame erase indicator will light up. Press the OK button to erase all the pictures. The camera will make a short single beep and the All-Frame erase indicator starts descending.

Adjusting the Date and Time- when adjusting from the camera!
Lens barrier must be closed.
1. Press the previous (-) button and the LCD monitor ON/OFF button at the same time to turn on the monitor.
2. The screen is set to the Data-Print selection mode. Decide whether to print the date with the Previous (-)/Next(+) button, then press the OK (shutter) button.
- Press the Erase mode button to go to the date-input screen without setting the Date-Print.
- Press the LCD monitor ON/OFF button to cancel the setting and turn off the LCD monitor.
- Date-Print is possible only when printing directly from the P-300 printer.
3. Enter the number for the year with the Previous (-)/ Next (+) button, then press the OK (shutter) button. When the minutes have been entered press OK. This will complete the dat e setting and turn off the LDC monitor. Press the erase mode button or the LCD monitor ON/OFF button before completing the setting to cancel it and turn off the LCD monitor.


To Format the Card
1. To set the YES/NO display, press the Erase button and the Flash mode button at the same time.
2. Press OK to start formatting and the Card error indicator blinks. Press the Erase mode button to cancel the format.
3. When card formatting is done, the Card error button will disappear.

To Reformat the Card Intentionally
Press the Erase mode button and the LCD monitor ON/OFF switch button simultaneously, with the power OFF. Then press the OK button.
Warning: Formatting the card erases any existing data, including any pictures which have been write-posted from the camera. Be careful to not erase any important data when you are formatting a recorded card.
