Drug Resources

If you are a young person whose use of alcohol or other drugs is causing you or your family concern, or maybe you are worried about someone else's using or drinking, there are a number of resources where you can go for help. Begin with talking with your school guidance counsellor or youth worker. During this discussion a number of issues are discussed to help determine your level of involvement with a substance. Based on this discussion you will be matched with an appropriate service to meet your individual needs.

Strength Program
The Strength Program offers a range of programming and supports for youth and families who are dealing with substance abuse, addiction and other related issues.  This program is appropriate for those requiring more focused intensive treatment than what is offered through local community addiction services. This is an 8 week day treatment program which your counsellor is able to refer you to. For more information on the Strength Program please visit

Portage Atlantic

Located in Cassidy Lake, New Brunswick, Portage offers a residential rehabilitation centre for adolescents. The program helps to stimulate personal development and empower individuals to overcome their substance abuse problems. For more information on this program please visit

Provincial Addictions Treatment Facility

  • The primary objective at this facility is to provide safe, medically supervised detoxification from mood altering chemicals, education in the nature of addiction and motivation to further treatment. This facility has 25 detox beds and 16 rehab beds open to both men and women. Adolescents in emergency situations, who require short-term observation and medication are also offered detox services.

 

Extended Care Facilities

 

Talbot House

  • A residence for men that provides a safe, structures environment and support while working towards maintaining a chemical-free lifestyle. Accommodates 14 residents. This is a transitional facility; residents stay for a minimum of 6 weeks and max of 6 months.
  • Men are referred through community services such as Hillsborough Hospital, QEH, Provinical Addictions, and Provincial Corrections Center

 

Deacon House

  • A shelter located of the grounds of Hillsborough Hospital which provides overnight shelter for adult males over the age of 19 who abuse substances or have a chemical dependency.
  • This is a not a medical or treatment facility its purpose is to provide food, shelter and support

 

Lacey House

  • Provides a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for women working toward maintaining a chemical-free lifestyle
  • Accommodates 6 residents
  • Residents stay from 6 weeks up to 1 year
