Tell a story?
Here are a few steps to help you become a good oral story teller.
(1) Choose a story or tale you enjoy. One that you are interested in and that you can tell with enthusiasm.
(2) Read the story to yourself several times and reflect on the mood, details and setting. Think of how you can describe the stories setting in words.
(3) Read the story aloud many times, until you get to a point when you can picture the character. Don't memorize every word, but you should know the plot really well.
(4) Next, start to take notice of the words you use in the story. Use "fancy" words to make the story more descriptive. Ex: clashes instead of fought.
(5) Watch your timing. How does the story sound if you pause before important parts?
(6) Watch what happens when you change your voice. How does it effect the story and the attention of the audience.
(7) Think of what facial expressions or hand gestures would enhance to story.
