A character Sketch of the Main Character 25 years after
Based on the novel Among the Hidden
Luke Garner was a very shy and scared young boy, unlike today. Today he is a strong, brave man, 37 years of age. His life has changed so much during the past 25 years that it is almost unbelievable. After Luke had left his family with a new name, Lee Grant, he thought his life would be so much better. He wrote letters to his family telling them how his life was going, he tried to be so happy with his new life, but no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't.
Jen's father had visited him a few times after that and he said that he was working towards lifting some of the population laws. Luke thought that maybe someday he could go to his old family and be with them.
After five years of going to school, making lots of friends, traveling and doing everything he ever wanted to, he graduated. He asked his new parents if his real mother and father could come, but they said, "No." Luke was disappointed, but he looked forward to that day because he would be getting so many honors, only as Lee Grant, not Luke Garner.
After graduation Luke spent the summer doing normal things like everyone else. He had a girlfriend, he went to parties and he went to the beach a lot. He applied to college and he got accepted. After college all the population laws were lifted and Lee Grant could now be known as Luke Garner, everywhere he went.
His brothers were both married with kids. Mark ran a farm just like his father and Matthew became a teacher. Luke's father had died and his mother lived with Luke's aunt. He finally met his whole family.
Luke became a politician, he is very famous. He is married and has a young boy. Luke lives happily and had a grave made for his best friend Jen. He visits regularly and he is currently working on an autobiography of his life as a shadow child. Luke is still friends with Jen's dad and Luke and him visit schools telling kids about Shadow Children and the population laws. Luke couldn't be happier and always looks at his past as a good thing that helped him learn more about himself then anyone ever could.
