Chasing Redbird - Character Sketch

Zinnia Taylor is a 14 year old girl who is the main character in the novel "Chasing Redbird". Zinny has medium dark hair, dark eyes a little nose and little ears. She also has long skinny legs ( a lot like her mother and sister). She lives with her parents, her aunt and uncle, three younger brother and three sister in a small town called Bybanks Kentucky.

From the time Zinny discovered a trail in her back woods, she has been exploring and trying to clear it. This is what she enjoys doing most. Her house is split into two different sides,"The Quiet Zone" and her family's side. The Quiet Zone is her aunt and uncle's side and it is rarely loud, unlike the side her family shares. This quiet side, where she spends most of her time, is another one of Zinny's likes. Zinny has many collections too. She collects things ranging from lucky stones, and zinnia seeds to bottle caps and postcards.

Being on the loud side of her house (Her family's side) is Zinny's biggest dislike of all, but boys bribing her with gifts to get her sister, May , to go out with them annoys her also.

To clear and explore Zinny's whole trail and find out what is making Uncle Nate act differently since Aunt Jessie passed away are Zinny's goal for the summer and fall.

Zinny also values all of her collections and most recently, her focus is her trail. She doesn't like when people help her with it because she found it and she calls it "My Trail".

In this novel Zinny has changed by becoming a little more interested in her family's background than she would have been before she found her trail. She also learned to stand up for herself more. Zinny is much closer to her Aunt and uncle than the rest of her family. If I were her though, I think I would closer to my sisters since they are around the same age and we would probably share a lot of the same interest.

Zinnia is very open person at times. She is sometimes rude to people but only if she fells she needs to be. Although Zinny is rude she is also a very nice, brave, and outgoing and I would love to have her as a friend! If Zinnia Taylor was a real person I would want to meet her and get to know her and become friends with her. I don't think Zinny was al that heroic but she did figure out at the end the particulars of who owned the, how it got there and where all the missing pieces along her journey came from and went to.
