I was split up from my brigade. I was running along trying to escape the alien robot. The martian's heat ray had set every bush and tree on fire. A carriage sped past me. It crashed a few yards ahead. Something big and heavy landed on me. I fell down and stayed there. A robot passed by me. The horse that was pulling the carriage had been thrown on me. I hit under it so the robots wouldn't kill me.
It was pouring rain. There were a few houses still standing.
Waking, the town, was nearly destroyed. There were two robots patrolling and destroying the town. I decided to get up and hide in one of the houses. I saw one robot coming and ran into what was left of the woods.
It passed by not seeing me. It looked like a big metal shield with a hood for a head. I thought I'd have better protection inside a house. I ran towards one. There was a fence around it. I saw a robot heading towards me. My shirt got caught in the fence. I pretended to be dead. The thing passed right by. I had to tear my shirt.
I went up to the house, I turned the handle. It was locked. I knocked, not expecting anyone to be inside. The door surprisingly opened. A middle age man appeared in the doorway. He let me in. I told him my brigade had been completely wiped out. I told him I needed to get back to Weybury. That's where the General was and I needed to report to him. He told me we should wait an hour or so. The robots may leave. I agreed with him.
We went upstairs to his study to watch for Martian robots. The rain stopped. We went outside and started walking towards Weybury. The robots headed to the next town. We met some people along the way. They didn't know about the Martians. They said that the Martians were only a few miles away.
I found the General. We both told him about the heat ray and the robots that the martians had. I told him about how they had wiped out my brigade. He didn't believe us about the heat ray. He told me to report to a new brigade. I was kind of scared.
