Notes
from the Counsellor’s Office:
Each month I devote a
portion of my column towards Ethics. This month, the topic is
informed consent and a client’s rights:
When counselling is
initiated, and throughout the counselling process as
necessary, counsellors inform clients of the purposes, goals,
techniques, procedures, limitations, potential risks and
benefits of services to be performed, and other such pertinent
information. Counsellors make sure that clients understand the
implications of diagnosis, fees and fee collection
arrangements, record keeping, and limits to confidentiality.
Clients have the right to participate in the ongoing
counselling plans, to refuse any recommended services, and to
be advised of the consequences of such refusal.
Programs
Currently in Progress at KISH:
The Student Assistance
Program has been presented to our grade 7 students during the
month of November and will most likely finish prior to Christmas
Break. We thank Cindy Galt, our Youth Addictions worker for
delivering this program to our students.
Positive
Choices Program will continue with our grade 10 students this
month. On December 14th, we will have our 3rd
of eight presentations. This month will focus on Family Violence.
Our students will participate in the Silent Witness Program. This
program is designed to raise the awareness of students with regard
to the prevalence of family violence on PEI.
