When should you seek counselling?

Through out your entire life, there are certain times when we may need help coping with problems and issues that cause us emotional distress or make us feel overwhelmed. When you are experiencing these types of difficulties, you may benefit from the assistance of an experienced, trained professional. Counsellors offer the caring, expert assistance that we often need during these stressful times. A counsellor can help you identify your problems and assist you in finding the best ways to cope with the situation by changing behaviours that contribute to the problem or by finding constructive ways to deal with a situation that is beyond your personal control. Counsellors offer help in addressing many situations that cause emotional stress, including, but not limited to:

anxiety, depression, and other mental and emotional problems and disorders

family and relationship problems

substance abuse and other addictions

sexual abuse and domestic violence

eating disorders

transitions to college , university and/or into the work force

social and emotional difficulties related to disability and illness

job stress

the death of someone close to you or any type of a loss

Counselling is recommended when you:

you are unhappy for a week

Are having difficulty sleeping

feel a real urge to hit people

Have lost someone or something (such as a job)

Can no longer figure out what is most important in your life

Feel that you can’t cope with your stress

Much will be gained by those in the group by having the support of each other. Informed consent will be required for this group. Parental consent, if necessary will be arranged after you have signed up. If these times are not good for you, please let Mrs. Black know. We may be able to facilitate a time when these groups could run during the day.
