Hi grade 12's. This is the first of award information which will be sent to you throughout the school year. If you have any questions please drop into the counsellor's office.

Reference letters
A) You should make requests for references at least one week in  advance from when they are needed.
B) It is often helpful to provide the person who will be writing a reference with an outline of your involvements (resume) and a copy of the scholarship criteria.

* Be mindful that deadlines may mean that the form has to be in the sponsors hands on that date.


1.1. Loran Awards  -  Minimum 85% average. Character, service and leadership are selection criteria.  National - $75,000; Regional Finalist -$3000; Provincial -$2000    Visit     www.loranaward.ca    Deadline : Tuesday, October 16. 2.Canadian Moorehead-Cain Award (same application as Loran Awards) valued at approximately $50,000. Awarded to 3 students from Canada who show promise of exceptional value to the community. It is tenable only at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, N.C.). Visit www.Canadianmoorehead.org for more information.

3. Canada Millennium Scholarships
Value: $4,000 - $20,000.  Awarded for Leadership/ Community Involvement/ Innovation/ Academics.
Applications available at    www.excellenceaward.ca or in Guidance Office. Deadline: Dec. 15/07.

4. University of Alberta Scholarship information for Academic Excellence is available in the Guidance Office. Deadline for application is Dec. 15/07.

NSAC has forwarded some Entrance Scholarship information which will be of interest to students planning to attend NSAC.  You can view this information  on line at http://www.nsac.ca/awardsoffice/ or in the guidance office.

5. TD Canada Trust  Value of up to $60,000. For Outstanding Community Leadership. Possess the academic skills to successfully enter and complete university or college.

7.East Prince Youth Development Centre Youth Bursary Award has been established to assist youth between the ages of 15 and 30 in furthering their educational and career goals. This award is offered annually and is awarded to a youth who plans to take part in a skills enhancement opportunity.
Criteria includes: being a member of the East Prince Youth Development Centre, furthering education and/or career goals by taking part in a skills enhancing opportunity (i.e. driver?s education, college courses, short courses, etc.) has donated at least 50 hours of volunteer time to their community and can provide documentation. Deadline for application no later than October 31, 2007. Applications available in the guidance office.

House of Commons Pages for the 2008-2009 academic year. Applications from senior high school students who maintain an average of 80% and who are fluent in English and French are invited to apply. To be eligible, students must also be accepted at a university in the National Capital Region. Applications forms available in the Guidance office.

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship     15 awards of $5000 for students who have maintained a high level of academic achievement  and who have  distinguished themselves through  environmental community service extracurricular and voluntary activities and academic excellence.     www.earthday.ca   Deadline: Jan 31

The Primrose Scholarship is offered by the University of New Brunswick to students entering an undergraduate program at UNB. It is  valued at $5000. Criteria includes  academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership. Memorial University, Faculty of Arts is offering an exciting opportunity for Grade 12 students. 'Become Your Future' competition premiered last year and invites students to write an essay - or a short story, or a long poem, or just about anything else - about your life and career in 2018. For inspiration, go to www.mun.ca/arts . There, you'll learn what you can study, and where it can lead! It's 2018...show and tell us: where did a liberal arts education take you? Remember, keep it concise! You only have 400 words (in written or oral form) to take us into your future. You could win one of two full year's tuition prizes (fall and winter semesters, 2008-09) in Memorial Univeristy of Newfoundland's Faculty of Arts. Prizes of $1,275 and $700 will also be awarded. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program valued up to $7,000 per year for a maximum of four years or until a first undergraduate degree is obtained. As the name implies, the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognized humanitarian volunteer work. There is no set discipline students must study in order to receive the award, but they must continuously demonstrate a strong performance in academics, athletics and volunteerism. The application deadline is February 1st of each year. For more information about the program, or to download an application form, please visit the program's website at www.terryfox.org

The University of Western Ontario will be offering the following scholarships:

- Up to eleven President's Entrance Scholarships valued at approximately $33,000
($6,000 per academic year for a period of four years with the first year of residence room and board included);

- up to fifteen Faculty Entrance Scholarships valued at approximately $22,000 ($4,000 per academic year for a period of four years with the first year of residence room only included);

- and, up to fifity National Merit Awards valued at $2,000 for one year; these award winners remain eligible for admission scholarships.
