Relay For
Life
May 30-31, 2008
What is Relay For Life?
The Canadian Cancer
Society Relay For Life is an incredible night of fun, friends
and fundraising to beat cancer! This is our school’s chance
to host the ultimate, 12-hour overnight event involving teams
of students, teachers, staff, family, friends and members of
the community.
What makes
Relay For Life so great?
*team up with friends
and camp out in tent city
*light special candles
that line the Relay track during a moving Luminary Ceremony in
honour and in memory of those who have faced cancer
*enjoy great
entertainment and activities all through the night
*learn more about the
Canadian Cancer Society, our programs and services and about
how you can reduce your risk of getting cancer
*celebrate the courage
and hope of cancer survivors as they walk the Survivors’
Victory Lap, the first lap of Relay For Life
Relay For Life high
school events provide students with the opportunity to develop
leadership skills, learn about charitable causes and most of
all to bring the whole school and community together for a
common goal – to beat cancer!
ENTER A
TEAM!
10 - 12 people make up a
team
Each person must pay
$10.00 at the time of registration.
Last year at the
KISH Relay, the average amount raised per participant was
$163.74. Let’s see if we can beat this in 2008.
Receipt books are
provided so that official receipts my be given to those
supporting the cause.
Teams or individuals may
now register online, using Visa, Master Card or American
Express. Go to www.cancer.ca/relay
and follow the links to your event in PEI.
Survivors’
Victory Lap
Cancer survivors are
invited to walk the first lap of the Canadian Cancer Society
Relay For Life to acknowledge and celebrate their courage in
their struggle with the disease.
The Survivors’
Victory Lap gives survivors an opportunity to:
give hope to people
living with cancer and their families
thank everyone who
helped them through their battle
share and
celebrate success in their battle against cancer
We are looking for
cancer survivors to walk the first lap of the Relay For Life.
If you are a survivor and are willing to participate or you
know of someone who might be willing to participate call
836-8901 and leave your name with the secretary Cathy Hickey
and someone will be in touch or email semacdonald@edu.pe.ca.
All survivors who participate in the Survivors’ Victory Lap
will be invited to attend a Survivors’ Reception where they
will have the opportunity to meet other survivors, enjoy some
great food and perhaps win a door prize.
Luminary
Ceremony
Luminaries are
candles that are placed in special bags that bear the names of
cancer survivors and loved ones who have lost their battle
with cancer.
After being lit in a
moving ceremony at dusk, luminaries provide light and
inspiration for participants as they walk around the track.
Experience the emotion
of Relay For Life. Participate in the Luminary Ceremony by
lighting a candle to honour a cancer survivor or someone who
has lost their battle with cancer.
Buy a luminary by
calling 836-8901. Luminaries are $5.00 each.
